ANCASTER TOWN HALL

Ancaster is in southern Ontario and is a scenic suburb of Hamilton.  This town was founded officially in 1793 and was one of the oldest European communities established in Ontario.  From the late 19th century Ancaster’s population would remain static until 1946 when new subdivisions around the village were established.  After the section of Highway 403 for Hamilton-Ancaster was introduced, population expanded.  After the 1970’s the population for Ancaster just kept on rising.  Ancaster represents the fastest growing community within Hamilton and is still growing.

Recreation

The Hamilton Golf and Country Club

In 1894 the Hamilton Golf and Country Club was located besideHAMILTON GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB the Hamilton Jockey Club (which is now Centre Mall, in central Hamilton), but relocated in 1916 to Ancaster.  The club has hosted five Canadian Opens.  It has been long regarded as one of the top golf courses in Canada, currently ranking second on Canada’s list of best golf courses.  Worldwide The Hamilton Golf and Country club ranks in at 98, for the Top 100 Courses in the World.

 

The Ancaster Little League Park

The Ancaster Little League Park is located on Jerseyville Road in Spring Valley and has three baseball diamonds.  The park hosted
the Canadian Little League Championships in 2010.  Prior to hosting the Canadian Little League Championships, the park went thru major reconstruction.

 

 

 

The Ancaster Rotary Centre

The Ancaster Rotary Centre is an addition to Morgan Firestone Arena and includes a full size fitness centre, workout complex.  It also offers meeting rooms offering 10000 square feet of weights, cardio, group exercise and daycare. The complex is surrounded by the Robert E. Wade Park, which includes four baseball diamonds and five soccer fields.

 

Lindley's Farm & Market Ltd.

This farm offers fun for the whole family. Lindley's boasts a 4-acre corn maze, and visitors young and old can tour the grounds via a pumpkin hay ride. You wont go home without grabbing some fresh produce.   There is also an extensive u-pick berry farm.

 

Ancaster has many annual events as the people of Ancaster consider the town as their own village, considering it separate from Hamilton.  The two major events are Festival of Friends (August) and Ancaster Fair (September).  Both events have a very good response and happen at the Ancaster fairgrounds.

Other events that happen that happen in this small but lively village are Ancaster Community Food Drive (February), Paris to Ancaster Bicycle Race (April), Lobsterfest (May), Ancaster Heritage Days (June), Ancaster Old Mill Road Race (June) and Ancaster Christmas Tree Lighting (December).

 

Shopping

Ancaster has a wide variety of stores that will always keep you busy.  Just in the heart of Meadowlands of Ancaster is Danier, Fairweather, Addition Elle, Reitmans, and Globo Shoes.  These stores are located right beside Ancaster SilverCity Cinemas.  Also, Ancaster has the only Costco in Hamilton.  Close to Costco is Target, Homesense, Sports Check, Petsmart and Best Buy.  In the older Ancaster area is Fortinos, Walmart, Food Basics, and many other stores.

 

Restaurants

OLDMILLThere are many resturants in Ancaster but a must try is Ancaster Old Mill.  It has an amazing variety of dinners and lunches.  It also has a beautiful venue for weddings as well.  The food can be enjoyed all year long with an amazing view and décor.  Ancaster features restaurants such as Montanas, Kelsey’s, Lone Star Texas Grill and Jack Astors.   You can  also fill your craving with different variety of foods such as; East Indian, Thai, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Italian and Mexican.

 

Transportation

Ancaster is a dream for commuters as it is located right off the 403 highway.  Commuters have easy access to Burlington, Oakville and Toronto, but if going the other way easy access to Brantford, London and Kitchener.  Ancaster has easy access to the 403 and the LINC as well for local commuting.

 

Education

The town's only public institute of secondary education was Ancaster High School until 2005. Other secondary schools in Ancaster are Bishop Tonnos Secondary School belonging to an independent Christian high school that moved to Ancaster in 1989.

Public elementary schools in Ancaster include Fessenden, Rousseau, and C.H. Bray (kindergarten to Grade 6) and these students upon graduation generally end up going to Ancaster Senior Public School (grades 7 and 8) except for Ancaster Meadow public elementary students (kindergarten to grade 8).

In the Catholic elementary school system, St. Ann's, St. Joachim's, Holy Name of Mary and Immaculate Conception students (kindergarten to grade 8) generally end up at Bishop Tonnos Secondary School.

 

The Ancaster Public Library, a branch of the Hamilton Public Library System, originated in 1955.  The library was reopened on November 27, 2006 after an extensive project that involved extending the library to include the entire first floor of the building.

 

In the past 20 years plenty of new homes have been built in Ancaster and are still being built.  When selling your home in Ancaster just remember it won’t last too long.  Homes in Ancaster stay on the market on an average of 30 days.
